Profiles of Healing
The Profiles of Healing book/audio CD series is an unprecedented encyclopedia of the world's healing knowledge through the stories of traditional shamans and medicine people.
One of our most visible initiatives is the ongoing Profiles of Healing book series, created to evoke the experience of being with traditional healers, shamans and medicine people as they teach their cultural ways. Edited by Bradford Keeney, Ph.D., the books are first person narratives accompanied by photographs, illustrations, and CDs or DVDs of music, prayers, sacred songs and dances of the cultures. The diverse cultural experiences and descriptions of complementary medical practices detailed in these volumes make this series a unique encyclopedia of the world's healing knowledge.
Many indigenous healing traditions risk extinction. The people represented in this series have participated to help preserve their knowledge and ways of life. Traditionally such wisdom has been passed on through oral life stories. The books' photographs and digital recordings allow one a close-to-life experience with the healers in their communities.
Ringing Rocks' long-term relationships with culturally respected healers, shamans, and medicine people have cultivated mutual respect, trust, and unprecedented access. The series presents the participants'/authors' stories in a mutually agreed upon format, and our authors are delighted to share their sacred knowledge with the rest of the world. The Ringing Rocks Foundation is honored to provide a forum for these important voices.
