Gary Holy Bull in the Classroom

In 2007 Ringing Rocks Foundation began presenting Gary Holy Bull, a Lakota medicine man, telling his life's story to teens to educate them about the dangers of drugs and alcohol and the strength that can be found by connecting to your roots and your own cultural traditions.

Through listening to Gary's real life experiences, the young adults begin to learn that the problems they are facing have been faced by others before them. They see a strong man who has used the power of connecting to the traditions of his people as a way of combating drug and alcohol abuse, abuse suffered as a child, the loss of loved ones and many other heart-rending situations. The children can identify with Gary and see the example that he holds forth for them.

It is a very moving experience for these young adults.
